A GREAT VISITOR RUSH TO THE MIDDLE EAST CARPETS FAIR

3rd Middle East Carpets Fair, which was organized by Marka Fair Organization at Middle East Fair Center in Gaziantep between September 6-9 2012, was raided by visitors from all over the world.

The Middle East Carpets Fair, which was organized by Marka Fair Organization for the third time, was highly admired by the visitors and attendees. While participant companies created new trade links, visitors enlarged their views on the carpet sector with countless options and directly purchased the products. The 3rd Middle East Carpets Fair, which was supported by Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce, Gaziantep Chamber of Carpet Business, Gaziantep Chamber of Industry, City of Greater Gaziantep, Union of Southeaster Anatolian Carpet Exporters, KOSGEB, Association of Floor Covering Sector (ZEMİNDER) and All Fair Organizers Association (TÜFOD), made a great success. During his speech at the opening ceremony, Sebahattin Sensoy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Marka Fair Organization, said: "Welcome to the Middle East Carpets Fair Welcome to the Marka Fair of Turkey. Welcome to the opening ceremony of Gaziantep's worldwide fair Thank you for honoring our opening ceremony. I thank to all chambers, unions, associations and institution supporting this fair, especially Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce, Gaziantep Chamber of Carpet Business, Union of Southeastern Anatolian Carpet Exporters. I thank a lot to all leading institutions of the sector, who has trusted in and accompanied with us for years. And I thank to all employees of Marka Group.

An ancient Italian proverb says: "Rome was not constructed in one day!" This proverb stresses that the success requires a patient, harsh and long journey.

This proverb gets more meaningful to us while telling about the fair organizations in the carpet sector in Turkey. Right, "Rome was not constructed in one day." Rİght, "The carpets fair was not organized in one day" In the carpet and flooring sector of Turkey, the first fair was organized in Istanbul in 2001 by Marka Fair Organization: Eurasia Floor Fair… Despite the harsh financial crisis in Turkey in 2001, the fair made an unexpected great success. During the following years, the number of companies who recognized the success and stability of our fair increased and our fair has grown so much that it became the biggest commercial activity in the carpet and flooring sector in Eurasia. Yet, it was not an easy process. Directors from some of the companies said, "We attend to the fair in Germany. You try hard for nothing, Turkey is not the place for organizing a fair." However, we were not demoralized.

We made more effort and continued working all over the world… And it was the day when the companies who said "You try hard for nothing, Turkey is not the place for organizing fair" became the biggest attendees of our fair. A more striking progress: There have been 2 fairs organized yearly for 5 years. 2 fairs are organized per year towards carpet and flooring sector; one is in Istanbul in spring, and the other is in Gaziatep in autumn. Moreover, this year, both of them were organized in Gaziantep. Dear guests, There are four big fairs towards the carpet and flooring sector all over world. One of them is organized in Germany and one is in China. The other two fairs are organized in Turkey. One of them is International Eurasia Floor Fair and the other is Middle East Carpets Fair… We progressed from the beginning point of "Turkey is not the place for fair organization" to the point of organizing two of four biggest fairs of the world. At this point, we have learnt that some of our companies do not attend to the fair in Germany any more. In 2010 and 2011, the Middle East Carpets Fair became so successful that we decided to organize 12th International Eurasia Floor Fair in Gaziantep, which we had organized in Istanbul for 11 years. I owe thanks to Dear Mehmet Aslan, the Chairman of Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce and Dear Selahattin Kaplan, Chairman of the Union of Southeastern Anatolian Carpet Exporters, for the encouragement they gave us on this decision.

When our business experience and knowledge and their long sighted viewpoints were combined, the biggest carpet and flooring fair of Eurasian and the biggest carpet fair of the Middle East were organized in the city. Gaziantep earned another great fair… Our sector won. Turkey won. Eurasi Floor fair in spring… Middle East Carpets Fair in autumn.. Carpet and Flooring sector attended to both of the fairs. Middle East Carpets Fair made an amazing progress. The fair was organized in an area of 8.000 m2 in 2010. We reached 15.000 m2 in 2011. And an amazing increase in 2012: 27.000 m2. Of course we have to mention the exhibitions and business meetings which took place at our factories in 4 industrial zones. From this point of view, we became the fair at the largest area in the world. Marka Group shares this great success with the whole sector including all supporter directors of chambers, unions and associations, as well as manufacturers, importers, wholesalers and retailers. This success belongs to us… This success belongs to Turkey. I want to stress one last thing before ending my speech as the Chairman of All Fair Organizers Association. Making a long-term fair policy, which will support both national and international policies of economy and development, will increase our competitive power and empower our economy. In this context, Gaziantep needs a larger fairground. And at the preliminary stage, it needs a big hall. Hopefully, we open this fair at the new hall in 2013. I thank to you all again for your sup- port." Mehmet Aslan, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce, made a speech and mentioned that they expect an exportation of 1.5 billion dollars in Gaziantep, where yearly carpet production reached 350 million square meters.

He said, "Gaziantep is the number one of the world in machine woven carpet production. We want to catch Belgium in fitted carpet production. If we make this success despite the harsh conditions in our region, this is a good model. We will never give up, always work more. Of course there will be people trying to axe this success but they will hit the axe on the rock." Selahattin Kaplan, the Chairman of the Union of Southeastern Anatolian Carpet Exporters, said, "The investment made in the sector this year is 20 percent. For the first eight months of the year 2012, we reached the figure 951 million dollars in exportation, which is 36 percent more than the figure of the same period of time last year. And we target 5 billiondollar exportation for the year 2023." He stated that the events in Syria negatively affected the sector and said, "Previously, we had transported our products to many Arab countries through Syria. However, we try to transport the goods via marine transportation due to the problems in Syria. This is decreasing our speed." Nejat Kocer, Gaziantep Member of Parliament for AK Parti (Justice and Development Party), reminded that he had previously been the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce, and mentioned that Gaziantep amplified the industry with unity and solidarity.

He said, "The exportation rates of Turkey grow by 8 percent while the rates of Gaziantep grow by 14 percent. Gaziantep grows almost two times more than Turkey does. We are proud of it." Erdal Ata, the Governor of Gaziantep, said, "75-80 percent of the machine woven carpets are produced in Gaziantep. And 80 percent of the exportation of these carpets is made in Gaziantep. This is satisfactory for our province. We keep working for solving the problem in the 5th Industrial Zone. By the way, I believe that, Gaziantep will have a better view with the Gaziantep-Kilis Joint Industrial Zone."

ALL THE WORLD CAME TO GAZIANTEP FOR PURCHASING CARPETS

The Middle East Carpets Fair, which is regarded as the international meeting days of the carpet sector, has been raided by both domestic visitors and foreign visitors. Marka Fair Organization, which is a combination of knowledge and experience of long years in fair organization, caused a visitor rush to Middle East Carpets Fair for four days in Gaziantep, which is the carpet manufacturing center of the world.
